Paul Powers LMT since 2000. I practice in Albany NY and receive clients within a 100 mile radius. I have a private practice and I also volunteer at the Capital City Rescue Mission Free Clinic. I've been there since 2007.

I have an extensive background in bodywork. I have been trained in some unique modalities that have helped me assist many folks thru painful conditions, and mobility issues. I currently utilize somatics in the tradition of Dr.Thomas Hanna, PRRT (primal reflex and release techniques developed by John Iams San Diego, DPT) and conjugate gaze (developed by Dr. Vincent Perri D.C. Waterbury, CT) as modalities for treating chronic pain, trauma, and/or stress that may also affect various conditions which may be aligned with them. SMA (sensory motor amnesia) can and often is a baseline for many conditions affecting folks.

So many people who've been thru the standard processes of treatment I see, and yet their bodies are still in a heightened state of flight or fight. There are certain reflex patterns in the body which help and protect us. However, when these patterns become conditioned as a result of habituation (ex. working postures, single sided sports movements) trauma (i.e. accidents, surgery... the body doesn't distinquish between a knife and a scalpel) and/or daily stresses, we can have an immediate or eventual loss of voluntary muscle control. It is quite possible that contracted muscle patterns which have become involuntary could be the baseline for a host of congestion problems and chronic pain.

Let's do a small self test! Make a fist and see how long you can hold that fist in a tight contraction. 30 sec. 5min.. 10 min.. If you have involuntary muscle contractions, they are being held like your fist on some level 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This situation requires alot of energy on one's part to maintain all the time and also builds a substantial backlog of lactic acid in the tissues.

Clients are welcomed as whole beings, not just a sore shoulder or a stiff ankle. Everything about a person is interconnected physically, mentally and emotionally. The story behind the symptoms starts with all of you and what you bring to the session. Movement and proper alignment with gravity, help to maintain the integrity of the body's systems. Trauma, habituation and / or stress can derail that integrity and make life miserable.
